Staff
The Director of Messiah Lutheran Preschool is Carol Carpenter. She joined our staff as a teacher in the three- and four-year-old programs in 2004 and assumed the director’s responsibility in 2010. Mrs. Carpenter has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona. She has fifteen years of experience working in primary and early childhood education. She has worked in both in regular and special education classrooms. She is currently completing the 90-hour Early Childhood Education Certificate program for the State of Maryland and also has over 125 hours of approved training hours from the Maryland Department of Education, Division of Child Care Credentialing. Mrs. Carpenter has also completed the 54-hour Maryland Model for School Readiness program – a Kindergarten Readiness course from the State of Maryland. She is a member of the National Lutheran Association and the Office of Child Care Directors.


Our staff is selected for their teaching ability and educational background, along with their love, enthusiasm and interest in working with and teaching young children. A criminal background check is a requirement for employment. CPR and First Aid training is a requirement for all employees working more than 16 hours per week.
Our teachers are college graduates and/or have training and experience in early childhood education. They continue to participate in early childhood education-training workshops and are working on completing the Maryland Model for School Readiness course. All members of our staff participate in the professional development activities and the required and approved Maryland Department of Education, Division of Child Care Credentialing training programs to further enhance their teaching experiences.
